Reshad’s F3 testing plan is confirmed

Réunion racer Reshad de Gerus has been given the green light to get his 2021 FIA Formula 3 Championship season underway at two pre-season tests in April.

Series officials had been unable to confirm when F3 teams would be able to return to the track because of travel restrictions during the global pandemic.

But this week’s announcement that Reshad will be able to test at Spielberg Circuit in Austria (3-4 April) and Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain (21-22 April) has been greeted with relief – and excitement – by the talented 17-year-old.

“I’m very, very happy to be able to get back in this car,” Reshad explained. “I need experience in F3 and you can only get that when you’re driving. I know I have a lot of work to do to understand how I can maximise qualifying and the Pirelli tyres. Having four days of testing will be vital.”

The pair of two-day pre-season tests at the home of the Austrian and Spanish Grands Prix will give FFSA Academy member Reshad the opportunity to resume his trackside working relationship with Charouz Racing System – the team he will represent in 2021.

“It’s been a long time since I first drove the F3 car at the end of 2020 but there’s been lots of information coming from the team to make sure we can put everything together as fast as possible when we get to Spielberg,” the Frenchman said.

“None of us know what the pace will be like this year, but I’m asking lots of questions and trying to understand as much as possible. I want to start as fast as I can and I know the guys in the team are motivated to have a strong season.”

Once his pre-season testing programme is complete, Reshad will only have two weeks to wait until the first F3 race weekend of the season in Barcelona (7-9 May).
